The Period After The Information Age Where We Conquer AI and Ecological Risk
By J.W. Sher · May 17, 2025

In my short stories, Kathie’s Middle Class Star Traveller Lifestyle and Screen City, I attempt to imagine an age after our current Information Age, where we have moved beyond AI and ecological crises. In this future, which I call the Electrobiological Age, which begins, optimistically, about 50 to 100 years in the future, artificial super intelligence has been put to work creating new electrically powered metabolic chains that can be implanted in human biology to take care of all survival needs by performing essential metabolic processes with electricity.
- Humans no longer have to breathe: Electrically powered metabolic chains integrate with the bloodstream. These powered metabolic chains implanted in the legs absorb high-powered light provided by special clothing (e.g, leggings) to turn carbon dioxide into oxygen.
- Humans no longer have to eat or generate biological waste: Like electrically powered respiration, humans no longer have to eat because these artificial superintelligence developed light-powered implanted metabolic chains convert ADP to ATP and perform all the waste recycling and generating of energy-carrying chemicals, such as lipids, carbohydrates, and protein, necessary for humans to survive.
- The electrically powered symbiotic biology is programmable: We can program our electrobiological implants to generate all needed pharmaceuticals, peptides, or proteins to repair ourselves and live indefinitely.
- This electrical power allows us to live in outer space easily: We can live in outer space RVs that only need static nitrogen atmosphere and some climate control. The RV does not need a kitchen or a bathroom. All we need is solar power and batteries, and 100 billion humans can live throughout the solar system.
- Earth Becomes a Park: With this vast increase in the habitat that can support human beings, Earth can become a park to preserve its biology. Humans can visit and celebrate their origin and development.
- Humans become Practical for Space Exploration vs. Robots: Humans use 2000 calories a day, which is about 2.3 KWH, which at 30 cents/KWH, a high price, is about 70 cents a day worth of electricity. More importantly, the brain runs on 20 watts, which is vastly more efficient than modern AI. This power usage compares favorably with robots for many tasks. Humans also have self-repair capabilities. Humans will use Robots where superhuman strength or intelligence is required. Still, these systems will vastly alter the economics of robotic and human space exploration versus the economics of the previous Information Age. This change will validate the primary purpose of our biological nature: energy efficiency. Robots’ primary advantage over us during the information age is that they can “eat” electricity. If we convert humans to be capable of “eating” electricity, humans will have a permanent and valuable place in outer space and always be the most practical way to perform tasks in some situations.
